Our UK Programmes – In Collaboration with Floating Counselling Community
Introduction:
SHAWIN, in collaboration with Floating Counselling Community, delivers practical, educational, and wellbeing support for vulnerable women in Ilford, London Borough of Redbridge. Many of the women we work with are refugees, asylum seekers, or newly arrived residents who face language barriers, social isolation, and financial challenges.
Our UK programmes aim to prevent and relieve poverty, build confidence, and enable women to become self-sufficient and active members of the community.
Our Key Programmes:
1. ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Classes
● Weekly free classes to improve English communication skills.
● Supports women to engage with schools, access services, and pursue employment.
● Pre- and post-class assessments track progress and confidence levels.
2. Health & Wellbeing Workshops
● Mental health awareness and self-care sessions.
● Guidance on accessing local healthcare services.
● Delivered collaboratively with Floating Counselling Community for therapeutic and wellbeing support.
3. Life Skills & Empowerment
● Workshops on relationships, financial literacy, and independent living.
● Delivered with My Family 101 for relationship & financial guidance.
● Skills include budgeting, navigating benefits, and parenting support.
4. Housing & Benefits Support
● Advice and guidance on housing applications, tenancy rights, and benefits access.
● Delivered with Beautiful You Support to ensure participants can achieve stable living conditions.
5. Vocational & Skills Development
● Accredited courses and training for employability and income generation.
● Delivered in partnership with London Vocational College.
Expected Beneficiaries and Outcomes:
● 50 women supported annually in Ilford.
● Improved English language skills and confidence.
● Increased access to employment, education, and essential services.
● Enhanced mental health, wellbeing, and social connection.
● Strengthened community ties through peer support and collaborative learning.
